FAQs
-
Made by hand and meant to be lived with, we encourage gentle hand washing in warm soapy water whenever possible.
While some pieces are dishwasher safe, handmade ceramics respond best to slower rituals and thoughtful care. Most pieces are suitable for microwave or oven use. Allow time to get to room temperature before transferring from the fridge to the oven or before placing in cold water. Items with gold decoration should not be used in the microwave.
-
All tableware is produced to be food safe, with food safe glaze finishes. Please see the description for each piece to confirm the intended use.

We are delighted to welcome private and design visitors to the studio by appointment only. Please get in touch to arrange a visit curated to your shopping or design requirements: studio@foundceramics.com

We offer shipping worldwide and all pieces are packaged and shipped in the same manner: a layer of protective tissue paper is followed by thick flexible paper wrap. The piece is then twice tightly wrapped in corrugated cardboard and secured. A triple-thickness cardboard box is prepared with plant-based packaging chips in which your piece sits in the very centre, tightly packed. Boxes are secured with tape, marked as fragile and sent using the most appropriate recorded postal or courier service. All packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable.
-
We work with private clients and designers around the world on bespoke projects and to ship limited edition pieces from our collections.
-
We offer a repair service for all porcelain and stoneware, whether contemporary or antique. Our in-house restorer has over four decades experience in antique porcelain restoration, with private clients worldwide.
-
Bespoke projects begin at £1,500 and can be tailored to specific budgets.
-
Both porcelain and stoneware are fired to high temperatures (usually around 1280 degrees celsius), making them durable.
Stoneware is generally thrown thicker and as such can be heavier. Porcelain is lighter, thinner, and non-porous with a slightly more refined feel in the hand.
For tableware produced for commercial kitchens we opt for a 38% stronger, specialist porcelain.
FOUND Promise, Values, Mission, Impact + Sustainability Policy
FOUND was created from a belief in slower living, thoughtful objects, and the lasting emotional value of things made well.
Working from our studio on the border of Rutland and Northamptonshire, we create porcelain and stoneware objects intended to be used, lived with, and kept for years to come.
Our practice is shaped by material awareness, small-batch production, and a quieter, more considered approach to making. Alongside our creative work, the studio continually explores how refinement, permanence, and responsible production can coexist within contemporary ceramics.
FOUND Promise
To create objects with depth, permanence, and quiet character.
To work with integrity, curiosity, and material sensitivity.
To explore overlooked materials and thoughtful methods of production.
To leave our communities, landscapes, and creative industry better than we found them.
To act with care, respect, fairness, and transparency across every aspect of the studio.
FOUND Values
1. Make with Intention
FOUND creates slowly, in small batches, allowing time for refinement, experimentation, and a closer relationship with material and process.
Each object is shaped with permanence in mind, resisting excess, trend, and disposability in favour of quieter, lasting design.
2. Honour Material
The studio works primarily in porcelain and stoneware, alongside reclaimed and overlooked materials that introduce subtle shifts in colour, texture, and surface character.
Rather than concealing variation, FOUND embraces the unpredictability of fire, mineral reaction, and the movement of the hand.
3. Design for Longevity
FOUND believes objects should justify the resources required to make them.
Pieces are created to remain; to gather memory, develop familiarity, and quietly integrate into daily rituals over time. Guidance on care, repair, and long-term use is considered part of the process from the outset.
4. Build Thoughtful Systems
The studio continually develops lower-impact working practices across energy use, packaging, transportation, sourcing, water recovery, and material reuse.
Packaging materials are recyclable, reusable, or compostable wherever possible, and the studio prioritises local suppliers and production partners where appropriate.
5. Act with Transparency
We believe trust is built through openness around process, sourcing, and continual learning.
FOUND remains committed to sharing how objects are made, where materials come from, and how the studio continues to evolve its practice over time as part of our commitment to being carbon neutral and as a certified B Corp brand.
6. Choose Depth Over Scale
FOUND remains intentionally small.
Growth should never compromise quality, integrity, material awareness, or the experience of making itself. The studio values thoughtful evolution over rapid expansion.
FOUND Mission
FOUND explores the relationship between material, atmosphere, and everyday ritual through porcelain and stoneware objects shaped slowly and intentionally.
The studio exists to create objects with emotional permanence: pieces that become absorbed into daily life and acquire meaning through use and time.
Alongside this creative purpose, FOUND remains committed to thoughtful production methods, material stewardship, and a long-term approach to responsible making.
Impact + Sustainability
FOUND became the world’s first certified carbon neutral ceramics studio and a certified B Corp brand in 2026.
Examples of practice in action include:
• Electric pottery wheels and specialist kilns powered by 100% renewable electricity.
• The use of specialist clay bodies selected for durability and longevity.
• Closed-loop water recovery systems within the studio.
• The exploration of reclaimed minerals and overlooked material waste streams within glaze and surface development.
• Closed-loop packaging systems designed to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable from recycled materials.
• Lower-impact firing methods, including the use of biopropane derived from waste oils.
• Ongoing reduction of unnecessary chemical use across studio processes.
FOUND views these systems not as separate from the creative process, but as part of the same wider consideration: how objects are made, what they are made from, and whether they deserve to exist in the first place.
