FAQs
-
Made by hand and meant to be lived with, we encourage gentle hand washing in warm soapy water whenever possible.
While some pieces are dishwasher safe, handmade ceramics respond best to slower rituals and thoughtful care. Most pieces are suitable for microwave or oven use. Allow time to get to room temperature before transferring from the fridge to the oven or before placing in cold water. Items with gold decoration should not be used in the microwave.
-
All tableware is produced to be food safe, with food safe glaze finishes. Please see the description for each piece to confirm the intended use.

We are delighted to welcome private and design visitors to the studio by appointment only. Please get in touch to arrange a visit curated to your shopping or design requirements: studio@foundceramics.com
-
We offer shipping worldwide and all pieces are packaged and shipped in the same manner: a layer of protective tissue paper is followed by thick flexible paper wrap. The piece is then twice tightly wrapped in corrugated cardboard and secured. A triple-thickness cardboard box is prepared with plant-based packaging chips in which your piece sits in the very centre, tightly packed. Boxes are secured with tape, marked as fragile and sent using the most appropriate recorded postal or courier service. All packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable.
-
We work with private clients and designers around the world on bespoke projects and to ship limited edition pieces from our collections.
-
We offer a repair service for all porcelain and stoneware, whether contemporary or antique. Our in-house restorer has over four decades experience in antique porcelain restoration, with private clients worldwide.
-
Bespoke projects begin at £1,500 and can be tailored to specific budgets.
-
Both porcelain and stoneware are fired to high temperatures (usually around 1280 degrees celsius), making them durable.
Stoneware is generally thrown thicker and as such can be heavier. Porcelain is lighter, thinner, and non-porous with a slightly more refined feel in the hand.
For tableware produced for commercial kitchens we opt for a 38% stronger, specialist porcelain.
FOUND Promise, Values, Mission, Impact + Sustainability Policy
Our studio was born from, and founded on, living a slower and more considered way of life. We are keenly aware of our impact on both people and the planet, which informed our desire to become Carbon Neutral. We create functional and sculptural ceramics as an investment to both enjoy and hand down to future generations.
FOUND Promise
To make one of a kind objects with joy, passion, and purpose.
To demonstrate that sustainability and high design can coexist.
To leave the earth, and our communities, better than we found them.
To act with justice, equity, inclusion, dignity, care, and respect.
To consider the needs of all employees, suppliers, shareholders, society, customers, and the environment.
FOUND Values
1. Make with Intention
Design begins with purpose. We create objects to be treasured whilst resisting excess, embracing simplicity, and prioritising thoughtful process over rapid output. Each piece is made slowly, by hand, with care for materials and the future.
2. Commitment to Measurable Responsibility
Sustainability is accountability. We operate the world’s first certified carbon neutral ceramics studio and report our environmental impact transparently. We prioritise renewable energy, circular systems, water conservation, waste reduction, low-impact packaging, and sustainable clay bodies. Where impact remains, we offset and seek to reduce it.
3. Honour Timeless Craft
A process respectful of integrity. We value skill, patience, and quiet mastery. We pay fairly, protect wellbeing, and foster dignity in all working conditions.
4. Design for Longevity
Our pieces are made to last decades; to be handed down and re-found in an act of timeless love. Guidance on care, repair, and reuse is provided from the outset.
5. Build Circular Systems
We strongly believe that waste is a design failure. We reclaim clay, reuse materials, and minimise single-use inputs. Our packaging is recycled, recyclable, compostable, and reusable and the studio operates a closed-loop system wherever possible.
6. Act with Transparency
Trust is earned through transparency. We share how we make, what we use, and where we are learning. Progress is as important as perfection, and we welcome scrutiny and collaboration.
7. Create Community Value
We exist within a wider ecosystem and prioritise local suppliers, provide educational workshops, and support local and national initiatives that regenerate environment and community.
8. Choose Depth Over Scale
Growth must never dilute integrity. We are conscious of scaling thoughtfully, ensuring quality, sustainability, and care are never compromised. Joy, passion, and purpose always come first. Our success is measured by impact, not revenue.
FOUND Mission
FOUND is about the rediscovery of simplicity and the quiet joy found in objects made with care and meaning.
We encourage a slower, more intentional relationship with everyday objects: items that are kept, cherished, and imbued with memory. Alongside our creative purpose, we commit to low-impact production and a carbon-neutral future.
Impact + Sustainability
FOUND aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and works to exceed the standards of our carbon neutral certifications.
Examples of practice in action:
• Electric pottery wheels and specialist kilns reduce energy usage by 40%, powered by 100% renewable electricity.
• Clay is sourced in the UK and our choice of more economical and stronger firing clays extend the life of each piece.
• A closed-loop recycled water system reduces water consumption in the production of our pieces.
• We opt for equipment using rechargeable batteries wherever possible.
• Chemical use has been eliminated in favour of environmentally friendly alternatives.
• Gas kiln firing uses biopropane derived from waste oils.
